Empowering the Future of the Fuel Industry through Education and Mentorship
The mission of SIGMA’s Fuel Foundation is to promote knowledge and forward thinking across the entire downstream fuel value chain. In addition the Foundation recognizes the value of mentoring future leaders in fuel supply, marketing and retailing.
In support of this mission, the Fuel Foundation sponsors top-tier education from industry experts in person at SIGMA conferences and online. It provides further insight through research and publications. Additionally, the Fuel Foundation funds two annual scholarship programs to support the next generation of leaders and facilitates volunteerism and advanced industry training.
Recognizing the scope and breadth of change in the fuel industry, the Fuel Foundation helps create solutions for today’s challenges and those of tomorrow.

The Fuel Foundation supports two valuable scholarship programs each year. The mission of the Pay it Forward Scholarships is to help advance the education of SIGMA member company affiliated students with strong academics who are dedicated to community service through volunteerism. The Boyett-Greinke Industry Scholarships in honor of former SIGMA Presidents Carl Boyett and Frank Greinke are awarded to employees who are actively pursuing or plan to pursue a degree, program, or specific training that will help advance or expand their career within their fuels industry company.

Pay it Forward Scholarships
There are 8 scholarships available in 2024 totaling $25,000!
2 - $5,000 in honor of Marilyn Selvitelle and 6 - $2,500
Who is Eligible?
- SIGMA Members’ adult or student employees, spouses, children, grandchildren and dependents of current employees.
- High School Seniors who have been accepted to college or trade school for Fall of 2024 with a minimum GPA of 2.5
- Students currently enrolled in a Trade School, Undergraduate, Graduate, and PhD program with a cumulative 2.5 College GPA AND a minimum of one full time quarter/semester complete
- Individuals who have completed significant volunteer work in your community or school such as public service, community outreach, coaching, event volunteering, etc. (Supporting documentation required.)
Submission Materials
For those who are selected as winners:
- Official school transcripts (high school if graduating or cumulative college/trade school if already enrolled) showing your courses and grades completed through December 2023
- Newly enrolled college or trade school students—letter of acceptance and your student ID number or equivalent.

Two $5,000 scholarships will be awarded this year.
Selection
Boyett-Greinke Industry Scholarship applications must include the following:
- An essay from applicants (no more than 1500 words) about your industry interests and goals. Please include answers to the following questions:
- Why are you passionate about the fuels industry?
- What education will you invest in and why?
- Two letters of reference from industry professionals endorsing your work ethic and potential

The Fuel Foundation would not be possible without the generous support of individuals and businesses within our industry. Funds raised are used for a variety of purposes to achieve our goals, from research and grants related to studies on topics that affect our industry, to our Pay it Forward Scholarship program.
